Roasted rooibos, also known as red tea or red bush tea, has an interesting story that is intertwined with the cultural and historical heritage of South Africa. The Khoisan people, indigenous to the area, discovered the herb's unique properties centuries ago. Traditionally, they would harvest and ferment the leaves to make a tea-like infusion. In the 18th century, European settlers and botanists in the region learned about rooibos from the local Khoisan communities. Roasted rooibos involves an additional step in the processing of the leaves. After fermentation, the leaves are roasted, imparting a rich, earthy flavour and deepening the color of the tea. This roasting process contributes to the unique profile of roasted rooibos, distinguishing it from traditional green rooibos or unroasted versions. Rooibos has become a symbol of South African culture and heritage.
