One of the world's most delicate black teas. Created by one of China’s most revered Tea Masters who was on a quest to create a whole new subcategory of black tea. What transpired was a whole new world of flavour that resembles Lapsang remarkably, retaining only the sweet and malty flavour characteristics.
Ingredients: Black Tea Origin: Fujian province, China Flavour Profile: Rich, Bold, Sweet, Malty, Floral, Caramel, Stone Fruit Caffeine: Moderate Brewing Guide/ Directions of use: 3-5g, 90- 95°c, 5+ minutes We would recommend brewing for a longer time period, until you reach the flavour profile you like.
*Please keep in mind tea leaf and herbal characteristics can vary from batch to batch, due to sourcing availability and season of the crop.
The Story
What makes this little leaf of power so unique is the sweetness that transcends all other teas, created only from this tiny humble leaf. This tea used to be synonymous with Wuyi Mountains in Northern Fujian. For Tea Journeys Founder Mark Thirlwall, one of the very first bike rides in China was to discover the teas from Wuyi. For over a month Mark explored the area in and around the infamous clay souls known for “Yan Cha” or Rock Teas” because it appears that the teas are grown out of rock. In reality its a fine silt clay, however the plants have to work so hard to produce and grow, with this comes the sensational flavour of these oolong teas from this area. After tasting 1000’s of cups of teas, Mark discovered that in fact some of the best tasting Oolongs and not to mention other teas known to have grown in Wuyi were actually better grown a little further to the West of the mountains. A particular valley harvests the most incredible of teas that Mark was to sample during that whole month of tea exploration.
Just like how real estate works for everyone in todays world, so to does the same factors and decisions effecting tea makers, driven by what will actually offer a ROI. By moving further out from Wuyi, acquiring untouched land with little alteration and disturbance of soil at far cheaper point of entry, these innovative tea farmers found cheaper places to establish their tea gardens. These tea bushes grow like magic shoots from the impenetrable clay soils. Ultimately in China what makes the biggest counterpoints between different teas is terroir and processing. This cannot be traded or learnt overnight. This particular varietal of black tea is relatively new tea creation. It is not steeped in history like so many of the older trade names from China.
The liquor colour is stunning copper brown. As for the flavour profile it offers caramel notes with a hint of honey orchid in the finish. Perfect for black tea lovers looking for a new favourite.

I’ve never understood our camping buddies not liking Lapsang Souchong. After all they all say how much they like getting home and finding all there clothes smell of smoke.
Recently introduced Golden Goose into the mix and it captured some interest. There is hope for them yet.

An Absolute Gem
As a self-proclaimed tea aficionado, finding that perfect brew can often feel like a never-ending quest. After much searching, I stumbled upon Golden Goose, and I can genuinely say this tea has rekindled cherished memories of my childhood.
From the very first sip, I was transported back to the cozy afternoons spent with my granny. It was all about those simple, joyous moments—sitting together, dunking malt biscuits, and feeling enveloped in warmth and safety. Golden Goose captures that essence beautifully.
The aroma is inviting, rich with malty undertones that hint at comfort. Each sip is a velvety embrace, perfectly balanced to deliver warmth and depth without being overly strong. The combination of flavors creates a smooth experience that lingers pleasantly on the palate, making it the ideal companion for those quiet moments of reflection or a catch-up with a loved one.
I've enjoyed this tea at various times of the day—morning, afternoon, and even as a soothing evening treat—and it never disappoints. It's just perfect. If you're a fussy tea drinker like me, I highly recommend you give Golden Goose a try. It’s more than just tea; it’s a delightful journey back to simpler, happier times.
In the world of teas, this one stands out as a true gem. Cheers to many more cozy cups!

No need to hunt further... the golden goose is here
I first sampled this tea as a complimentary offering (thank you!), and it quickly became a favorite. Its rich, medium-to-strong black flavour is complemented by a warm, sweet note, capturing the deep essence of a lapsang without the typical bitter aftertaste. Each cup feels like a delightful reward, akin to Dummling the woodcutter discovering the golden goose.

How long does your tea stay fresh?
Short answer. It depends on the tea and how it is stored.
To keep your teas fresh, always store them well-sealed in a cool, dry, and dark place and generally as a guideline we recommend consuming within 3 years of purchase.
How much caffeine is there in a cup of tea?
The caffeine content of tea varies depending on factors like water temperature and steeping time. On average:
Black tea: 40-70 mg per cup
Green tea: 20-45 mg per cup
Oolong tea: 30-50 mg per cup
White tea: 15-30 mg per cup
Yellow tea: 30-50 mg per cup
Herbal: 0 mg (naturally caffeine-free)

I am really enjoying my sticky chai….. especially the ginger flavour which gives me the taste I like to identify.
I often use my diffuser in a mug rather than the infusion bottle and that works well if I just want a mug of chai just for myself.
I have samples to try and I want to try a chilled chai as well. I’m on a ‘tea adventure’
